The Lioness Oracle Tarot Deck

The Lioness Oracle Tarot is created by Alejandra Léon, who lives in Oakland, CA. She is a collage artist, numerologist, and astrologer, with degrees in English Lit and Reiki 1 and 2. Alejandra has been working with the Tarot for over 16 years, and started collaging together her own cards after the death of her father, who had been the one to guide her to the Tarot. In this healing process, The Lioness Oracle was created. I found out about this deck because one of my teacher’s uses it with her clients and recommended it.

WHY I LOVE THE LIONESS ORACLE TAROT DECK: I love this deck because I am aesthetically drawn to the rose and lion imagery. Of the collage decks I own or know online, hers has the warmest coloration. I like that many of the cards reference art historical pieces, especially ones from the Renaissance. There’s also an interesting mix of references to Western with Non-Western influences. This, combined with the celestial backgrounds, yield a holographic quality to the cards - both now and then, both here and there, both earth and star.

WHAT I’VE LEARNED FROM THIS DECK: A lot of cards in this deck ask me to expand my understanding of cards I think I know well, and that’s always a good sign in a deck.

MY FAVORITE CARD IS: The High Priest, because it’s usually called The Hierophant, and both the name and the imagery here feel more resonant. That’s my life card so I’m always checking that one out in a deck. (Life card can be found by adding the numbers in your birthday and then breaking them down to smallest number. That number corresponds to your Life Card. For me: 3 + 4 + 1 + 9 + 7 + 8 = 32 -> 3 + 2 = 5, and 5 = The Hierophant.)

GUIDEBOOK: Guidebook is simple and straightforward with welcome references to numerology and astrology for those who want to expand their understanding of those correspondences.

TAROT EXPERIENCE: This would make an excellent second deck. I recommend it for someone who already has a beginner’s practice with a more traditional deck.

In the last photo, the card on the left is from The Lioness. I included this to show you how different decks combine to create exciting conversations. The other two cards pictured are the Empty Cup Oracle (middle) and the Spolia Tarot (Right), also for sale.
